Thanks. I just needed to talk, and sometimes you say stupid crap that you don’t really think through until after you post it. I have to remember to get over myself and realize that I’ve got it pretty good, and when one of my biggest worries is “onoez, be5tp0ny iz getn dissed bawl” that should be an indicator I need to calm down and realize not everyone is being a jerk. I just don’t like when people bash stuff, and try to stop my own kneejerk “fight or flight” reactions. Thanks for the message.
Whee an anon is insulting me surprise surprise
So I’m seriously considering calling it quits. Just slammed the unfollow button on everything I was following. Nothing personal, I’m just considering deleting this after the shitheap that was S2. Is this me bitching about Fluttershy? Hell yes. Is that the only thing? Hell no. I can’t list everything, but one of the big things that killed me about the show was the fanbase. Everytime I see something that says “Fluttershy is overrated” cut about the same as when someone else said “Rainbow Dash is overrated” or “Pinkie is overrated” or who is best/worst pony.
The whole dynamic of “You must have a favorite and an antithesis” that seems prevalent in this fanbase is one of the worst things. I can live with the R34, it might not be my thing but I can see why people like it. The worst of it is how people seem to need to decry or antagonize anyone who doesn’t agree with them. And this is coming from someone who was so disappointed with the second season they came up with a third season using a random number generator and declared it “fair” because the character they like was shown favor. Hell, I can’t prove that wasn’t just me dumping names in wherever I felt like it, though I definitely pulled a d8 out and rolled up that season. It just hurts knowing that someone would say something like this: http://ponyconfessions.tumblr.com/post/19812213708 and mean it.
If I could ask everyone in this fanbase one thing, it’d be: “This is a show about ponies. Learning about friendship. What are you doing to promote its message?” I’d love to know. All I really know is, when I started watching the episodes, and just the episodes, I thought it was a good show. I didn’t really start raging over why anyone was better than anyone until I started looking at the fandumb. I’ve constantly felt like I needed to defend Fluttershy because she reminds me of myself so much to the point where it would be easier to just do what she does and avoid all of it, even if giving up the good comes with avoiding the bad.
At this point, I could live with that. I’d been considering giving up all of it’ not just the fandom, but also the show itself. It’d been getting to the point where I did stop watching on Saturdays and just watched the show online because I didn’t want to watch the episode at all and had changed my mind later. It’s not the show I hate, it’s the constant feeling that I have to defend Fluttershy as a character just because she isn’t Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie.
If my guess that Applejack fans feel the same way is right, then I cant help but feel terrible for them. They seem to be the ones most likely to be ignored, pushed into the background, or left without any real development, and that makes me even more depressed. The show is good… was good… I don’t even know anymore. All I know is that when I was feeling dubious about the hype, I thought I liked the yellow one more than the others, and when she finally had an episode I made a decision. Then when I had to wait a week or three for new episodes, I saw that nice, kind pony get shit on, turned into something she wasn’t, and taken for granted. It’s come to the point where I just don’t really care that much for the show itself anymore, and that is disappointing.
I considered it to be better than it really was due to the way it made me feel, and I’m positive there are other people out there who think it never lost any momentum due to the fact that their “best pony” hasn’t been shit on yet. But just watch. Eventually, Fluttershy and Applejack are going to be put on a bus, the Mane 6 will shrink to the Mane 4, the show will stop focusing as much on Twilight as the leader because “that isn’t bringing in enough revenue for toys” or some malarkey, and it’ll shrink to 3, and at some point the show will get cancelled due to lack of interest. I sincerely hope this DOESN’T happen, yet I can’t help but feel like a pessimist over how terribly everything was handled. I genuinely liked this, and now all I can think about is how I’m going to tell the group of fans I met at Con that I’m no longer interested and who might want the few bits of merchandise I did get. Now I’m glad all I bought was a shirt and some McDonald’s toys.
Cripes, this was supposed to be a post about how I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to stick with the fandom or just watch the show, and now I feel like I’m deciding whether I should watch the show at all or if I should just stop entirely. The only reason this blog is really still up is because I saw I had some reblogs from some people (Thank you, by the way.), and I feel like I owe you an explanation.
May’s always been a shit month for me, mainly because my Aunt was murdered this month 3 years ago. My parents were supposed to be spending the night with her, and the only reason they weren’t there was because my mom was sick. I had finals, and couldn’t make the trip regardless. What makes it all worse is that this happened the week before my cousin graduated from high school.
We all went to her, held services, went to the graduation (where she got loads of applause as her name was called to accept her diploma), and all I could think about was how my parents could have been killed off that same night if my mother hadn’t been sick. How easily they could have been taken if not for my mother being as ill as she was. And it tore me up every time I looked at my cousin, knowing there was no way in the world I could know her pain.
What does this have to do with cartoon ponies, you ask? My Aunt was one of the most kind, caring people I have ever known, and knowing that someone like her could be murdered that easily, that someone exists who could do that…
Buck anyone that says any pony deserves to die. I started to write some more stuff, but it was getting long-winded and really dark, so I’ll just say: if you think that, merely due to some little thing you don’t like about one pony or another, they deserve to be shunned, treated as less than anyone else, whatever; you are objectively wrong and should look over your life and determine what is making you that way. I personally don’t like Pinkie or RD. Do I think they should pull a “Cupcakes”, with RD getting baked and Pinkie being incarcerated? No. Do I feel a bit miffed at the fact that they’re generally given better treatment than the others, especially AJ and Flut? Yes, but again, that’s just my opinion.
I see AJ as hardworking, someone to be admired, and am confused as to why she isn’t given more episodes. She has a large family, yes, and it’s hard to give everyone equal time in a series with so few episodes to go around (21 in S2, with 5 Mane 6 eps), but when she is given an episode in S2, she’s missing for half of it and then the next one turns into a Mane 6 episode. Rainbow Dash gets laid up in the hospital, then infiltrates the hospital and has entire scenes to herself. Pinkie gets a song next episode where the ENTIRE TOWN joins in and sings with her, then she doesn’t stop bothering an elderly person, who obviously wants to be left alone. All through that episode, all I could think about was how it was possible his lost love could be dead, which reminded me of my dead girlfriend. I never hated Pinkie or anyone for that matter more than that episode, where, I’ll remind you, she got theENTIRE TOWN TO SING WITH HER.
One episode after Pinkie gets theENTIRE TOWNto sing with her, Fluttershy is out to the market in order to buy provisions for a meal that she isn’t even going to get to enjoy. She’s making a special recipe for an uppity rabbit, and when she meets with a vendor who could have participated in that chorus, she gets hassled for a single bit. When she goes looking for a cherry? Inflation. We’re used to it, sure, but then someone comes along and offers the regular one coin for it, and Fluttershy gets screwed over. Love and fucking tolerate.
Hurricane Fluttershy: AKA, Rainbow Dash Episode being called a Fluttershy episode to get the Fluttershy fans to shut up. Tell me I’m wrong. I want to be wrong. I so desperately want to be wrong. I’m not wrong. The entire point of this episode was getting Fluttershy to do something she was not good at, and the result was about what was expected: moral on the power of teamwork, shoehorned in at the end after an entire episode of shitting on Fluttershy.
I’m tired. Tired of caring about anything. Call me butthurt, I’ll agree. Sure. Fine. Call me wrong, and I’ll point this shit out again and again and again. The show itself is okay. It’s when I come on the damn internet and hear the fandumb crow about how “Fluttershy is useless” or “RD isn’t as cool as she thinks she is” or “Rarity is worst pony” talk that I end up depressed. So I’m leaving. Goodbye internet, I might come back later, but I don’t see that being for awhile now. If something doesn’t change, I don’t think it’ll be necessary anyway, as I don’t really see a long life for MLP:FiM.
Please prove me wrong.

I discovered a while ago that my spirit animal is Roxy. I thought you might like to find out yours, too.
Tavros. Yeah ok.
LALONDE F YEAH
I got bored and decided to make a random number generator (spoilers: write down the mane 6’s names, spike and CMC in a numbered list and rank from 1-8) to decide how Season 3 should be done. I used a d8 and this list:
1 - TS
2 - RD
3 - PP
4 - RT
5 - AJ
6 - FS
7 - CMC
8 - Spike
Twilight first, Rainbow second, Pinkie third, Rarity fourth, Applejack fifth, Fluttershy sixth, CMC seventh and Spike eighth. You’ll note how Fluttershy is not first. I put her at the bottom of the Mane 6 totem because I didn’t want to show favoritism. How this worked was I took a d8, rolled it, and wrote the pony’s name in the newest currently open episode slot to make Season 3’s setup of ponies fair.
Naturally, there is always the chance of double rolls, and for those I had a rule of “no re-roll, make it a 2/3parter for however many extra rolls come up with that same pony simultaneously.” I stopped at 3 parter because seriously, would you watch 4 episodes straight of even your favorite pony?
The results are:
E1 - M6 (2-PT OPENER)
E2 - M6 (2-PT OPENER)
E3 - FS
E4 - RD
E5 - TS
E6 - PP
E7 - TS
E8 - AJ
E9 - RT
E10 - Focus Episode: Luna, Celestia, other BG pony
E11 - FS
E12 - PP
E13 - CMC (POTENTIAL 2-PT FROM DOUBLEROLL)
E14 - CMC (POTENTIAL 2-PT FROM DOUBLEROLL)
E15 - FS
E16 - AJ
E17 - Focus Episode: Zecora, possibly Diamond Tiara & SS
E18 - RT
E19 - TS
E20 - Spike
E21 - AJ
E22 - Spike
E23 - RT
E24 - RD
E25 - AJ
E26 - M6 (FINALE)
AJ gets 4, Fluttershy gets 3, and RD has to wait five months between episodes. Now THAT’s fair.

For those of you who don’t like walls of text:
I’m pissed Fluttershy was treated like a forgettable stand-in, and I’m tired of waiting for a capable writer to give her some depth. If Hurricane Fluttershy isn’t the greatest thing ever, I will stop watching, and not say another word about this show ever again. Bad publicity is still publicity, and I wouldn’t want to give you even that if you think we’re so easily ignored you can ignore us for a year.
P.P.S.: Applejack fans are probably gonna be the second to go, so if you really don’t care about us at all you should probably focus some energy on them.
Hi. You don’t know me, mainly because I haven’t written anything yet. I was waiting for the new Fluttershy episode to kick things off on this blog, and that was back in October. As I write this, it is March and the first Fluttershy episode of Season 2 of MLP:FiM has finally aired nearly 11 months after her last episode. This might not seem like such a big thing, but let’s look back a bit.
Fluttershy has been given the short end of the stick on many things, whether it be her toy (a recolored Rainbow Dash), timely episodes (again, her last one before the 3rd was April 8th, 2011), and character development. It seems that the writers can only see character development in Fluttershy by attempting to make her meaner, more selfish, before taking it away from her and reverting her back to the status quo.
“But FibP!” I hear you say. “She’s had character development! Remember Dragonshy, or Stare Master?” Yes, I do. Those episodes featured innate characteristics she possessed previous to those episodes, as seen in the first two episodes of the show. She has had nearly no growth as a character since then, and most of what has happened does not carry over to new episodes. In keeping with that theme, I must refer to the fact that she has had no episodes to showcase her potential depth of character as a reason for why she is seen as so shallow.
This is less a complaint about how she has had nearly no episodes than it is a criticism on the writer’s parts in how they handle the rotation of their crops, as it were. In the first season, things were handled much better than they are now with the main character slots being varied while keeping Twilight Sparkle as the obvious Main main character of the whole show. With season 2, the schedule feels very patchwork; for example, Rainbow Dash taking a chunk of 3 episodes during eps. 33-42.
In one of those episodes, RD takes it upon herself to remind Ponyville why they looked up to her so much in the first place and ends up doing more harm than good, yet you can see where her heart was in the right place, therefore she gets a pass. Fluttershy, on the other hand, is trying to apply what she learned at Iron Will’s seminar in the only way she knows how: by pushing people around. It relates to how Rarity tricked the nerd pony into giving up his asparagus, and how Fluttershy has an obvious image problem. In her mind, she will never measure up to Rarity, so she needs to win her battles by force. It worked well for her in the past (again, see Dragonshy), so why shouldn’t she apply what she knows did well for her once to get what she wants now?
This is how it starts, with Fluttershy believing she can only succeed if she doesn’t act like the doormat she was. This forces her to see how she acted in the past, as “Old Fluttershy”, as a negative, and she doesn’t want to go back to being that pony. Why would she? She feels respected for the first time in her life, based on how she reacts when she intimidated all the ponies at SCC into going to the back of the line when she only wanted the one who cut in front of her to let her back into her rightful place in line. She sees it as being rewarded for taking action and making a decision to not let anyone walk all over her.
Move on a bit in the episode, where the animals in her cottage show real fear and concern over how she is acting. They’re reacting to how their caretaker is suddenly acting very differently from how she is normally. They shake and cower from her raising her voice at them, demonstrating how shenormally acts when confronted with someone who acts this way. After this, she sees her flowers have been drenched and lets the gardener know exactly how she feels about it by drenching him. This kind of behavior is reminiscent of a victim of bullying finally having a taste of power and not knowing the difference between people making honest mistakes (the gardener) vs. the pony who cut in line.
Now, take that mindset and balloon it a bit. Well, OK, a lot. It escalates from the gardener to shoving the mailpony into a mailbox for delivering the wrong mail, then the tourist asking for directions makes her think he tricked her into dropping her mail in the water being thrown into a tree, then WHAM she insults her friends. Make it so you are that New Fluttershy, where everyone is out to get the best of you and if you don’t take charge and let them know what you think of them, they’ll take it as a sign that you are trash and deserve to be treated as such. At first, you merely wanted to be shown respect, just like you’ve always shown everyone else. Now every perceived slight, intended or not, will be met with your “assertiveness”, except it’s no longer being assertive as much as it is being a jerk.
How do you fix this? Look inward. Fluttershy needed to ask Fluttershy what she was doing, and it was there that she realized it. After the fact, once she hurt her friends’ feelings, yes. You must realize, however, that the moment she saw her reflection, she knew that she was being just that: a jerk who should’ve thought about what they were saying/doing and Old Fluttershy came crashing back.
She takes to being a recluse, for how long we aren’t told though it is obviously long enough for her home to fall into disrepair and show a significant amount of time had passed. She seals herself away by getting Angel to tie her to a chair, so “Nasty Fluttershy can’t hurt anyone ever again.” After this, she returns to the status quo by telling Iron Will how she was unsatisfied with how his seminar turned her into a jerk, and the next time a writer brings Fluttershy out of the stable (Note: The 24th), I’m willing to bet she’s going to be used as an easy target for everyone to sling crap at again if history repeats itself.
Well, I’m at that point where I’m not sure I want to watch anymore. Hasbro has proved in the past that they obviously don’t care about Fluttershy, and once she drops off Applejack will be the most likely target for a punching bag. So I’m done. I might finish off the season, but if Hurricane Fluttershy doesn’t dramatically alter the path the writers are taking her down, it will most likely be the last I watch of it. All I can say for that is I can rest east knowing I only lost a half a year to this, and be happy I didn’t watch it when it first came out.
Even though I know it won’t be real happiness. That will have been taken from me if this turns out how I seriously hope it doesn’t. Seriously, Studio B, DHX Media, whatever you’re calling yourself, give her a chance to grow. Or you may see a large portion of your viewership disappear with Fluttershy as a result.
